Care & Use Instructions
Pre Heating
To get the best results from your Crust King Baking Steel, it needs to be pre-heated in your oven on maximum temperature for at least 1 hour prior to cooking your first pizza. This ensures that it absorbs sufficient heat for the cooking process. If you add your pizza too soon, you won't achieve optimum results.
Adding Pizza
Once it is pre-heated, and you've prepared your pizza, you can slide it on to the Baking Steel. You can use a peel to help you do this, or if you don't have one, you can also use a sheet of cardboard lined with greaseproof paper - it's how I started!
If you're really not comfortable sliding the pizza off of the surface of a peel, it can be easier to build the pizza on a cutting board with a piece of greaseproof paper, and slide the whole thing across.
Then, after a few minutes of cooking - when the crust has started to harden - you can open the oven and use a pair of tongs to remove the greaseproof paper, so that the pizza is then directly contacting the Crust King Baking Steel so that it can brown.
How to clean Crust King?
Once you've finished cooking and you've turned your oven off, leave the Crust King Baking Steel in there to cool completely prior to removing it for cleaning. The Crust King Baking Steel gets incredibly hot, and combined with its size and weight, it can be very dangerous to handle - so please be careful.
Once cool, you can remove it in order to clean using warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth or non-scratch sponge. The release characteristics of the coating should mean that any food residue is easily removed. Do not use metal utensils, scourers or other abrasive cleaning products, as this can damage the non-stick coating.
Whilst the Crust King Baking Steel is technically dishwasher safe, we would advise hand washing if possible, as this is likely to improve the longevity of the coating.
How to store Crust King?
Either store the Crust King Baking Steel in the base of your oven, where it's low profile means it takes up very little space.
Alternatively, you can store it in a cupboard or drawer - though please make sure it is laying flat and can't fall over, as this may cause damage or injury.
